Chieftain Chatter - Iuka Middle School Celebrates Red Ribbon Week and Upcoming Halloween Dance

Posted

Iuka Middle School kicked off Red Ribbon Week this week! The students began the week wearing red to “pledge a drug-free life.” On Tuesday they came to school showing that their “future matters,” and dressed as their dream job. Today, they showed they aren’t “scared to just say “NO,” and came dressed as scarecrows. They will round out the week by coming as Barbie or Ken or just wearing pink on Thursday to show “the most beautiful thing you can be is yourself.” On Friday, they will demonstrate “there is no reason to do drugs” by partnering up and dressing as rhymes without reason. Students will dress in pairs that rhyme but don’t really go together. For example, one student may come dressed as a fox and another as a box. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!

The annual Halloween dance will take place on October 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. The entry fee is five dollars. There will be concessions available and “glow items” available for purchase. Appropriate Halloween Costumes are encouraged, but costumes are optional to come to the dance.

FBLA is selling Boo Grams until October 30th. These cards will be delivered to students and staff with candy on the 31st. If you would like to purchase a Boo Gram for your IMS student, please send their name, 1st-period teacher, who the Boo Gram is from, a short message, and $2 in an envelope. You can send it with your child or drop it off at the main office. The proceeds from this will go to FBLA’s service project, Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

This week’s house point leaders are as follows: Credo, Emily Crane, Integrita, Sophie Lambert, Makiramay, Samuel Rolek, Meraki, Catherine Bunch, Mkali, Meg Moore, Synergi, Mary Katherine Davis, Teenima Charlette Poling and Remington Hogeland, and Uongozi, Taylor Huggins. Congratulations to all of these students and keep up the great work!

The Scholastic Book Fair begins this Friday and will close on Monday, Nov 6!  House, clubs, and basketball pictures will be taken on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Please wear your house shirt and plan to be at school. Yearbooks are on sale. The students have a QR code for ordering in Canvas or Google Classroom!

Our eighth-grade basketball teams played Hills Chapel on Thursday. The Lady Chiefs pulled out a victory and the Chieftains fell in a hard-fought battle losing by two points. The players of the game for last week were Caroline Robinson and Cooper Clark. We are very proud of both teams and can’t wait to see what they do the rest of the season.
