Monday evening the Iuka Baseball 12u All Stars hosted “Celebrate the Champs” event.  There was a parade filled with individuals and businesses throughout the community.  They paraded from Iuka Middle School through down town Iuka and stopped at Jaybird Park. The team was one of the first in the parade as they hopped off the trailer and watched the remaining of the parade, all who were congratulating them on a “job well done”!  Once the parade was completed, the baseball team was recognized by the Iuka Baseball League President, Wesley Stricklen.  Mr. Stricklen explained what Dixie Youth Baseball was and the background of the organization, league, and this group of boys.  There was also a brief recognition of the last team from the Iuka Baseball League that won a State Championship (2000).  Mayor Joel Robertson sent a letter to read aloud to the boys, encouraging and congratulating them on winning state as well as wishing them good luck at the world series.  Vice Mayor, Kenny Carson, spoke on behalf of the City of Iuka.  Jaybird Park was filled with people supporting our youth team as they represent not only Iuka but the state of Mississippi.  There was music by Dwight Wadkins, Raffle Tickets/Bids, Fresh lemonade, baked goods, snow cones, and The Lunch Box food truck! 

This event was to recognize the team and graciously accept any donations for the expense of going to World Series.

The team, coaches, and parents were astonished at the love and support that this community poured out. 

The team will head to Ruston, LA next week as they play their first game against Georgia on Thursday July 27^th at 2pm.  We will be keeping track of the games and try to update as they compete July 27^th-August 2^nd.
