This summer, Iuka Middle School student, Atticus Anderson, spent a week at Dallas University in Dallas, Texas with students from across the nation participating in NYLF Pathways to STEM program. Atticus was nominated by his fifth-grade teacher, Alisha Whitaker, to attend.
The week-long program focused on multiple areas including engineering, CSI, medicine, and a STEM project. During the engineering group, students built an amusement park ride complete with a motor circuit. The CSI portion taught students about blood splatters and the identification of powder substances. In the medicine portion, students learned emergency medical techniques for splinting. They also dissected a calf heart. The technology portion had the students build and program their own Mbot.
Atticus enjoyed his time in Dallas and would like to thank his teacher, Alisha Whitaker, for giving him this opportunity.
