Research shows the first Linton to arrive in Tishomingo County, MS, was Captain John Linton (3/2/1806 Chesterfield SC – 3/16/1898 buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, MS). He married Rebecca Shall Adams (9/30/1820 South Carolina – 1/17/1897 buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, MS) and moved to Tishomingo County MS in 1873. Here, he acquired a section of land west of the town of Iuka and established his home on what we know now as Seago Rd (CR 173). John and Rebecca were the parents of eight children:
Julius C Linton owned a large part of the original homeplace, which was acquired in lesser amounts by various sons and daughters. According to family interviews, around 1912 Claud erected a small building near his home to be used as a gathering place. This served as a church until a new building was erected and is known as Mt Moriah Baptist Church.
