Two volleyball games and a football scrimmage had the campus buzzing at TC. The student body was very excited; they showed up and showed out at all of the games this week.
Volleyball opened their week Tuesday against heated rival and 2A State Champions Belmont. TC students made the drive south and showed out, building a student section that rivaled the Cardinal’s on their home court. The game did not go like they would have wanted it, though. Belmont took a hard fought first set and after that it seemed like the ball kept on bouncing Belmont’s way. Belmont won the game 3-0, and TC dropped to 1-4.
However, later in the week, volleyball had a chance to redeem themselves with their home opener vs. South Pontotoc. This was no ordinary home game, as the Lady Braves debuted their new court. It was a sight to see the bright, beautiful TC logo at midcourt in all its splendor. Additionally, South Pontotoc is coached by TC volleyball alum Bailey Reece!
The Lady Braves defeated the Lady Cougars 3-0. Reese Moore highlighted the game with 18 kills, as she took home the coveted “Player of the Game” shades, presented by the TCPR team who livestreamed the game. Zareli Ozuna also had a huge contribution with 14 assists.

Last, but not least, the TC football team unofficially opened their season vs. Alcorn Central on last Friday. The offense and the defense showed great strength, as the Braves out-powered the Bears on both sides of the ball. The scoreboard read 39-0 at the end of the first half, which was intended for both side’s varsity players. However, the JV half would never happen. At the request of the other team, the JV half was cut from the schedule. This led to a 12-minute, intrasquad scrimmage for the JV players. The student section was donned with camouflage and cheered loudly as the Braves rolled over Alcorn Central.
It was a great way to kick off football season, as the Braves will travel to take on Mantachie for the official start to the season this Friday.
