TC XC not letting mud slow them down

Fall sports are still going strong on the campus of Tishomingo County High. Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country all saw action this week. Let’s take a look at how they performed.

Cross country Braves fight through the mud

On Saturday, September 10, the XC Braves had a meet on the Hickory Flat Cross Country Course. Rain all weekend caused the trail to be muddy, and it was a hindrance to all who participated. The Braves showed toughness, though, as they competed to the best of their abilities against the best that North Mississippi has to offer. Congrats to Tyson Anglin on another top 20 finish. Also, congrats to Haley Richardson-Nebo and Destini Simmons on a Top 25 finish. The Braves’ next meet will be this Saturday, September 17, hosted by Saltillo High School.

Volleyball gets some momentum for division play

The Lady Braves Volleyball Team had two games this week, both at home. On Tuesday, September 6, they faced division opponent New Albany. This was a tough outing for them, as they lost the game 3-0. This dropped them to 1-1 in division play. However, on Thursday the Lady Braves hosted a very good Hickory Flat team. One of the better teams in the state, the Rebels brought a very good fight to TC. But, through all the struggles and hardships that the game threw at them, the Lady Braves managed to get a much needed 3-2 win. Then on Saturday September 10, they took part in the Belmont Tournament. They went 2-2 on the day and got some good reps in against tough opponents. The Lady Braves will take on two division opponents this week, on Tuesday against Ripley at home and on Thursday at Corinth. Football looks ahead

Last Friday the Braves football team was unable to capitalize on the momentum built up by the Belmont game when they traveled to take on the Baldwyn Bearcats. Baldwyn is a very good team, and they played very well against TC. The final score was 54-12, in favor of the Bearcats. Despite some struggles, the Braves seemed to find a couple of things that worked for them during the game. Highlight performance of the week had to go to Landon Hemphill. He made 2 TD grabs, one was a very impressive catch over a defender in the endzone. The other was a long pitch and catch as time expired in the game. The Braves look forward to next week where they will take on the Kossuth Aggies on the road. Kossuth and TC are very familiar with each other, and it would mean a lot to this team and this school if the Braves could go into Kossuth and come out with a win.
