TC Band wins big in Russellville

Band:
The Pride of the Tribe received all Superior rankings and Best in Class Percussion at a competition last Saturday in Russellville, Alabama. The band has always been a great source of pride for the school, and they showed no difference during the competition. They also received 2nd Overall in Percussion and 2nd in Class Color Guard.
But, the story of the day was without a doubt senior drum major Cole Richardson. This is Cole’s first year as drum major, and he put on a great performance. Cole received Best in Class drum major, and Best Overall drum major.
Cross Country:
In the thick of Tupelo, cross country continued to persevere. Cross country had another meet last Saturday at Tupelo. It was a great meet and more Braves locked their place into the state competition. Cross country goes on a little hiatus before their next meet, again at Tupelo on October 22.
Volleyball
A win and a tough loss this week was the story for the Lady Braves. On Tuesday, the team traveled to Ripley High School and were able to get a 3-0 win. Reese Moore had another 25 kill performance, and Brenna Lambert came off the bench to solidify the back line, earning her player of the game honors. This moved them to 4-1 in the division.
On Thursday, the Lady Braves took on New Albany, no easy task, and they showed a ton of fight during the game. They were able to take the first set, but then fell short in sets 2 and 3. On set 4, the game was tied at 24-24. Moore was called with a controversial push call, then on the next point the ball hit the low-hanging New Albany roof, giving the point and the win to the Lady Dogs.
The Lady Braves are set to take on two other division foes as they play at North Pontotoc on Monday and at home against Corinth on Tuesday.
Football:
Football suffered a heartbreaker last Friday at the hands of the South Pontotoc Cougars. The game was scoreless in the first quarter, but Chandler Williams put the Braves on the board with a rushing TD. South Pontotoc would strike back, and it would be 7-7 at halftime
In the second half, South Pontotoc would jump out front with a field goal. However, at the start of the fourth quarter, Williams would strike on the ground again with another TD. Then he would hurt the Cougars on the line again with a long 55 yard TD run. It would be 21-10 and it looked as though TC would get a much needed win on the road.
Then the Cougars would score to make it 21-17, get a stop, and score again to take a 23-21 lead with 2:01 left in the game. But, the Braves would have one final drive. In the red zone, Williams threw an interception, however a pass interference call would give the Braves the ball back. The Braves got it all the way down to the 1-yard line, but wouldn’t be able to push it in for the final score. The scoreboard read 23-21, with South Pontotoc escaping with a comeback victory. The Braves will look to bounce back next week as they start division play against Itawamba on the road this Friday.
