Sophomore Anglin finishes in top 20 at New Albany

This week at Tishomingo County High, we finally had action from all three fall sports teams. Cross Country, Football, and Volleyball are now all in full swing. These teams have all spent the summer working and getting better. Now, they get to show us all how much they’ve improved.
Cross Country
Cross Country had its first meet of the season on Saturday, August 27 at New Albany. The Braves all ran well, but there was one undeniable headliner. Tyson Anglin kicked off his sophomore campaign with a top twenty finish in the race. Tyson has put in a lot of work over the offseason, as he was one of the four Braves to run in the Nightcrawler Race in Tupelo over the summer, alongside Spencer White, William Methvin, and Tag Hart. The next scheduled meet for the team is September 10 at Hickory Flat.
Volleyball
The Lady Braves Volleyball Team had a very, very busy week. They had 4 home games in the span of four days. First on Monday was the division opener against North Pontotoc as they got the win in three sets. Then there was a doubleheader, as the Braves hosted Kossuth and Hardin County in a tri-match. These games were only best of 3, as the Lady Braves got the victory over Kossuth in two sets, then got the win over Hardin County in three. The team then had a tough game against defending 3A State Champions Alcorn Central. They lost in three sets, bringing their record on the week to 3-1.
That was not all the volleyball action for the week, however. The Lady Braves traveled to Alcorn Central to play in a tournament with some of the best teams in the area. They would lose to Belmont in two sets, then lose to Kossuth in two sets. They would get a win against Middleton (TN) in two sets, but end the day 1-3 with a loss to Walnut in two sets. Despite the rough win-loss record, the Braves showed a lot of fight on Saturday. The whole team is looking better, and they will get a chance to prove it with games against Belmont at home on Tuesday, and again at Hardin County on Thursday.
Football
Last but not least, football had its season opener on the road at Mantachie. A couple of early special teams mistakes saw the Braves fall down early, but the Braves showed fight and passion throughout the entirety of the contest. One thing they showed off was their ability to execute trick plays, as the Braves showed an unconventional two-point conversion stance that sees the whole line of scrimmage minus the center line up on the left sideline, with a receiver out wide on both sides. They went 2 for 2 in 2-point conversions with this formation. Despite their best efforts, the Braves fell to 0-1 with a 42-16 loss to the Mustangs. There isn’t time to dwell on it, as they face off against heated rival Belmont this Friday at home.
