Peggy Bullard Ramsey

Corinth, formerly of Tupelo—Peggy Bullard Ramsey passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at the Stoneridge of Farmington Assisted Living. She was born September 17, 1931, the only child of Lawrence and Ercell Bullard of Iuka. She graduated from, Iuka High School and Draughn’s Business College in Memphis, Tennessee. She married Clifton Earl Ramsey May 6, 1950.

Peggy was Assistant to the Operating Superintendent of Sears in Memphis for nine years. After living in Jackson, Mississippi for seven years, they transferred to Tupelo in 1971. She worked as a school secretary for Tupelo Public Schools until 1993. After the death of her husband, 1997, she continued to substitute for the school system through 2016.

She was an active member of the West Main Church of Christ for 35 years, and Gloster Street Church of Christ the remainder of her life where she taught Bible Classes, worked in Vacation Bible School, and the jail ministry until she was no longer able.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Cherie Jordan (Tom) of Iuka; her son, Larry Ramsey of Birmingham, Alabama; grandsons, Will Ramsey (Kelci) of Booneville and Cody Ramsey of Birmingham; granddaughters, Ginger Jones (Daniel) and Lindsay Villarimo (Jacob) of Corinth; great-granddaughters, Macy Jones, Bailey Reese Jones, Laikyn Villarimo, Brielle Villarimo, and Addison Ramsey; great-grandsons, Rylan Ramsey, McKibbin and Rogan Villarimo; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Clarene and Eugene Reynolds, Jim and Donna Ramsey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Ercell Bullard; her husband, Clifton Earl Ramsey; her son, Ronald Earl Ramsey; her parents-in-law, Clifton and Ruth Ramsey; sisters-in-law, Mildred Ortner Ramsey, Sherry Parker Ramsey, and Lillie Ramsey Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Tommy Jack Ramsey and R. W. “Billy” Johnson.

Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo and will continue 11 a.m. until service time Thursday. Services celebrating Peggy’s life will be 12 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Minister Chad Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka.

Pallbearers will be Will Ramsey, Cody Ramsey, Daniel Jones, Jacob Villarimo, Cliff Reynolds, and Jim Ramsey Jr.

Heavenly honorary pallbearer will be Glenda Malone. Honorary pallbearers will be Lamoise Young, Joyce Swain, Marie Crowe, Patsy Johnson, Peggy Engel and the wonderful, caring staff of Stoneridge of Farmington Assisted Living.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
