With the new school year coming up this Thursday, the Lady Braves Volleyball season will be starting with it. The Lady Braves have been working hard all offseason to improve on their second in Division 1-4A performance in 2021.
“We are excited about the possibilities this season. We are extremely young, and there will be growing pains, but there is a ton of upside on this team,” said Coach Brian Middleton, starting his 6th year at the helm of the Lady Braves.
“We had a lot of success this weekend at the jamboree, going 2-1. We are going to be at Pontotoc this Saturday, and that will be another opportunity for us to improve,” said Middleton.
“Reese Moore has been our leader as far as hitting goes. But Margaret Riley and Katie Jourdan have shown so much improvement. Stella Hollis and Baylon Middleton have been setting, and they are going to have growing pains, but their experience will pay off big. Our back row is full of experience with Zareli Ozuna, Gracie Crowe, Georgia Barron, and Brenna Lambert,” he commented.
The Lady Braves went 2-1 during the Kossuth jamboree, defeating Walnut and Saltillo during the day. This was a good experience for the team, as Walnut and Saltillo are both opponents for them this year.
The promising junior varsity team also played three games at the jamboree, going 1-0-2, defeating McNairy Central and tying with Kossuth and Amory. This is good momentum for the Lady Braves as they are set to compete in the Pontotoc Classic on August 6. From there, they will play at Saltillo on August 9, and then their home opener next Thursday, August 11, against Alcorn Central.
