James (Jim) Sydney Hill, 85, of Phenix City, Alabama died June 28, 2023. Jim Hill, son of Curtis and Ettie Hill from Tishomingo, passed away after a short battle with pneumonia. His ashes will be at Ft. Mitchell.
He was married to Nancy Jo Grisham Hill. They had two sons, James (Jim) Sydney (Leigh) Hill, Jr., of Columbus, Georgia, Jonathan Jason Hill of Albany, Georgia, his granddaughter Elizabeth (Lizzy) Hill (his son Jim’s daughter) of Columbus, Georgia, five brothers: Leland (Joyce) Hill, of Hardy, Alaska, Paul Earl Hill of Paden, Mississippi, deceased, Roth Lee (Patricia) Hill, of Faulkner, Mississippi, Charles (Jinnie) Hill, of Tishomingo, JT (Ruth) Hill, of Slayden, Mississippi, seven sisters Betty (Edward) Wigginton and Patsy (Vinod) Kumar, of Corinth, Mississippi, Helen Easley, of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeannett Burgess, of Greenback, Tennessee, Shirley Moore, of Ft. Worth. Texas, Ella Hill, of Burnsville, Mississippi, Jeannie (David) Wooten, of Counce, Tennessee, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He loved basketball and played it almost 24/7 when in high school. He earned a basketball scholarship to Northeast Mississippi Community College. He loved music, especially playing the guitar and singing. He wrote his own songs with lyrics and even had a CD made of all his songs. He loved quail hunting and training bird dogs. Training bird dogs became a passion of his and he sold many bird dogs to friends and others. He served in the US Army, was a manager for Firestone Tire in his early years, and became a piano tuner/restorer in his later years. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Jo Hill, his parents Curtis and Ettie Hill, his brother Paul Earl Hill.
