Ida Ann Bean, age 81, the middle child of Dewey C. Lewis and Pet Dexter Lewis passed away on December 21, 2022, at her home. She was born on January 6, 1941.
Ida Ann Bean began school at age 4 at a one-teacher school, Walker Cutoff, near her home. She began 2nd grade at Central Consolidated School after the closure of the little school. After 8th grade, she attended Iuka High School and graduated in 1957, then went on to Northeast Community College for 2 years and then to Mississippi State University graduating in 1961.
Ida Ann met her future husband, DeWitt Bean, at MSU and they married in 1962. They had two children Dee Anna and Danny.
She went to work at the Tishomingo County Department of Human Services in 1962 and retired in 1998. Her hard work ethic was reflected in the family orchard where she picked and sold apples and peaches. She enjoyed stocking her pantry with homemade preserves and jars of vegetables from the garden she tended. One of the many ways she showed her love and kindness was through her cooking, she filled many plates through the years. She also enjoyed traveling the country and world with her husband and many close friends.
She was an active member of Iuka Baptist Church, loved her Sunday School class and church, and attended as long as the health of her husband and herself allowed.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, December 26, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Services will be held in the chapel at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Reverend JB Burns and Dr. Johnny Hancock will be officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka with Kevin Anderson officiating.
Ida Ann is preceded in death by her husband, DeWitt Bean; parents, Dewey C. Lewis and Pet Dexter Lewis; brother, Charles Lewis and his wife Billie; and brother-in-law Frank Crabtree.
Ida Ann Bean is survived by her daughter, Dee Anna Bean; son, Danny Bean; two granddaughters, Danielle Bean and Elizabeth Bean; sister, Elsie Crabtree; nieces, Sheila Hudson and Angela Gatlin; nephews, Jeff Lewis and Joel Lewis and their families; and sisters-in-law, Eula Anderson and Anne Bean.
Junior Estes, John Evans, Lance Gatlin, Barney Hudson, Jeff Lewis, Joel Lewis and Billy McKissick will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include the Iuka High School Class of 1957.
The family expresses sincere thanks for prayers, visits, food, her home health care and expressions of love from family and friends.
Memorials in her honor can be made to Iuka Baptist Church, The Gideons, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
