Ernest R. Floyd, 93, of Waterford, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Monday April 10, 2023 at Waterford Senior Living. He was born October 21, 1929 in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, the son of the late Clarence and Marie Miller Floyd, living in Wheeler, Mississippi and Spring Grove, Illinois before settling in Waterford. On July 3, 1949 he was united in marriage with Veda Long in Iuka, Mississippi, and she preceded him in death on January 23, 2021, after 71 years of marriage. They became members of the Lakeland Baptist Church, Lake Villa, Illinois in 1952. Before his retirement, Ernest worked for Johns Manville Corp for many years. Ernie enjoyed operating his amateur radio, camping, and fishing. He especially loved being with his family, telling stories and jokes; that he has passed on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: three children: Betty (Diane) Gagnebin of Santa Rosa, California, Ken Floyd of Fox Lake, Illinois, and Gary (Jenise) Floyd of Salem, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way; siblings: Colene Wright of Selmer, Tennessee, and Ben Floyd of Florida; sister-in-law Sheila Floyd of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife Veda, Ernest was preceded in death by a daughter Jeanie Jonker and a brother Bob Floyd.
Funeral Services were Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Lakeland Baptist Church, 24551 W. Grand Ave. Lake Villa, Illinois 60046. Interment is in Avon Centre Cemetery, Avon Township, Illinois.
