Council hears about social and emotional development in young children

The Midway Homemaker’s Club and County Council members met Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 9 a.m., at the Fairgrounds building. There were four members and one Agent present.

Leadership training today was on “Social and Emotional Development for Young Children.” Agent Emily Vestal presented club members with a pre-test on child development before the PowerPoint presentation and hand-out were given; then a post-test was taken after the training session, allowing members to compare their own individual pre/post responses. Club members enjoyed the activity as it brought to mind situations in the earlier years of their own lives that stood out in memory.

County Council Vice President Barbara Pardue, by request from the Council President, called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Midway Club President Betty Hickey. The Devotional was given by Barbara, and entailed (1) Christ has died; (2) Christ has risen; (3) Christ will come again; Scripture was John 3:16. She ended with this reminder: People may forget what you say, and even what you do; but people will remember how you made them feel. Good advice to remember as happiness, or a hurt, has a lasting presence in one’s memory. She asked club members to tell what they had seen recently that was ‘beautiful.’ Barbara, also, displayed two quilts she had made in the colors of red, white and blue. Club Vice President/Secretary Freida Bishop led the prayer.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Midway Club President Betty Hickey. She gave the results of the Dairy Foods Contest, held earlier this month. She also read the minutes from the previous meeting, which were approved. She gave a report of the approximate balance of the County Council account.

Old Business

Agent Emily gave a report of the activities held at the State Meeting. They had many good instructional workshops, visited a dairy farm, and enjoyed hearing many good speakers talk on various subjects. Our Club received recognition for our “Luv Buddies” at the meeting, and will likely receive a prize of some kind.

Barbara Pardue said she enjoyed the meeting in Pontotoc and the fellowship; plus the trip, there and back, with club members Bonita Wages and Linda Hester.

New Business

Club members were reminded of the County Council picnic being rescheduled for July 29th, and within our local area.

Since Covid-19 is on the rise again in our state, club members asked concerning our community goal to provide a meal for the Adult Day Service. A decision will be made in the next club meeting concerning providing a purchased meal as opposed to preparing the meal at home. Last year, regarding the health and safety of those at the service center, a meal was purchased and delivered to them.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11 a.m.
