Sixty years ago in The Vidette on August 22, 1963, the news was all about the county and state election. The big headline was: Coleman, Johnson Meet Tuesday in 2nd Primary. J.P. Coleman and Paul Johnson met in a Second Primary runoff. This same condition existed in 1955 when these two were opponents for the top job as Governor of the State of Mississippi.

In County offices for Circuit Clerk, Mrs. Arah W. Ivy and L.E. (Gene) Robinson; and for Tax Assessor, Alvia J. Blakney and Walter R. Wynn; and for County Representative, L.E. Deaton and Cleston Scruggs. In District offices for First District Supervisor, a runoff was between...

New Manager named for Iuka Shirt Co. was Troy D. Holtsford. New Church Being Built - Iuka Church of Christ Erecting New Building on Highway 25-South. Fire Ants Discovered in County – the first sight of fire ants was discovered in the Golden Area. This seems funny because they can be seen everywhere now. Advertisement announced that the firm of G. T. Carmichael and Son had been sold to Leon Phillips. Edmondson Supermarket had fryers for 25 cents a pound. Liberty had ground beef at 39 cents a pound.

Tishomingo was planning a special election to vote on a $124,000 bond issue for the construction of a sanitary sewer system. The other issue was to vote on alderman, to replace the late W. R. Nettles.
