Bonnie Lou Foote Coke passed from this life into Glory on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in Belmont, Mississippi. She was 89 years old. Bonnie was born to Bal and Bessie (Whitaker) Foote on June 22, 1933, in Burnsville, MS. Bal and Bessie owned and operated a general store in Burnsville, and Bonnie and her older sister Betty had many happy memories of growing up, going to school, helping in the store, attending church, and attending revivals and gospel singings in the nearby area. Bonnie met her future husband Jesse Coke, Jr. at a gospel singing. Jesse and Bonnie married on October 15, 1955. He was drafted into the Army, and they lived for a time in Tacoma, Washington, before returning home to Mississippi. They moved to Belmont, MS, in 1965 where they raised their children, Jay and Mitzi. In 1993, they moved to Jesse’s family’s farm in Glen, MS, but maintained close ties with the Belmont community. When Jesse passed in 2015, they had been married for 60 years. Bonnie graduated from Burnsville High School, Northeast Mississippi Junior College, and Mississippi State University. She taught at several different area schools before retiring from Belmont. Jesse and Bonnie loved Jesus and shared a love of gospel singing. They devoted much of their time to traveling to churches and singings, with Bonnie serving as a pianist wherever she was needed, including at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Golden, MS, Calvary Baptist Church in Belmont, MS, Jackson Camp Baptist Church in Paden, MS, and Community Center Baptist Church in Red Bay, AL. Bonnie also taught piano lessons and served as an officer for the Tishomingo County Singing Convention for over 20 years. Bonnie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her son Jay Coke (Janie); her daughter Mitzi Coke Horn (Jeff); her grandchildren, Jessica Horn Rester (Samuel), Shana Horn Vaughn (Samuel), and Dillon Coke Horn; her great-grandchildren Sarah Rester, Gideon Rester, and Rebekah Vaughn; and her step-granddaughters Julia Daniel Gilley (husband Pat, son Maverick) and Emily Daniel. Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS, is entrusted with the arrangements. Services will be held on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Golden Central Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:30pm and the funeral at 3:30pm, with interment following at Burnsville Cemetery. Bro. Haskell Sparks and Bro. Jarod Grimes will officiate. Dillon Horn, Samuel Rester, Samuel Vaughn, Steve Smith, Greg Smith, Greg Adams, Doug Messer, and Shaun Sitton will serve as pallbearers.
