During the week of July 2-9, Cheyenne Hughes, of Belmont, participated in the 2022 National Junior Angus Show.
This year “the biggest show on the dirt” was held in Kansas City, Missouri. Participants from 39 states were present to compete at the show. The show opened on July 4th in the main arena with an introduction of contestants from each state, a patriotic themed program, and a motivational speaker. In addition to the cattle shows, there were various other contests for the participants to enter and increase their knowledge of the cattle industry. Examples of other contests included the cook-off, public speaking, quiz bowl, skill-a-thon, beef poster contest, cattle judging, etc. At the end of the week, participants were awarded scholarships and awards based on their performances. A trade show and silent auction were also held on the grounds for everyone to enjoy.
It has always been a goal of Cheyenne’s to be able to attend and participate in this national show. This year she was able to show cattle in two different classes. In the steer show, Cheyenne exhibited her steer, Hac Jet Black 14, and placed first in the class! Cheyenne exhibited her heifer, PFW Lady Cheyenne, and placed fourth in its class. In addition to the cattle shows, she also competed in the skill-a-thon and the cattle judging contests. Cheyenne had a great time and was happy that she was able to compete at this level.
