The TCHS Braves and Lady Braves traveled to Corinth Tuesday night to open Region 1-4A play.
The Lady Braves came out strong against the Lady Warriors, scoring early and often, and never looked back on their way to a 61-25 Region 1-4A opener win. Reese Moore and Zareli Ozuna had 21 points each in the win.
“We came in with a lot of energy and knew it was our first division game, so we just turned it up,” said Zareli Ozuna.
“First quarter came out sloppy. Once we settle down, I thought we played extremely well,” said Coach Brian Middleton. “Zareli was a huge part of that with 21 points and 9 steals.”
Braves 35, Corinth 38
The Braves had the lead after each of the first 3 periods against the Warriors but gave up the lead in the 4th period giving the Warriors the 38-35 win.
“Even though we came up short it was the best defensive game of the year,” said Coach Justin Parsons. “Missed a few free throws, but we will work on that and get better.”
“I feel like we played really well, but there is always room for improvement,” said freshman Kayson McNutt, who had 16 points and went 4 for 5 at the 3-point line.
JV Action
The JV Lady Braves started the evening, blowing out the JV Lady Warriors 43-7 for the win. They held the Lady Warriors scoreless in the second half until the last 13 seconds.
In the second game of the evening, Corinth’s JV boys took an early lead before the Braves took a 12-4 lead, but turnovers plagued the JV Braves and the Warriors got the win 33-20.
