On June 3, 2023, Annie Bell Yow, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at her Rogersville, Alabama home surrounded by her family.
Ann was born May 13, 1939 in Alcorn County, Mississippi, to Odus and Flora (Wood) Puckett. Upon graduation from high school, she earned a scholarship and studied nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1961. She married Wayne T. Yow, of Iuka, Mississippi, in 1962, and they had two daughters.
Curious, smart and capable, Ann worked for 40 years in all areas of nursing, including surgery, ER, administration/supervision, teaching, and home health. She even spent four years abroad working at a teaching hospital. After retiring from nursing, Ann spent almost 10 years working at Safeplace, an agency dedicated to serving victims of domestic violence. When she retired at the age of 70, she continued to be a passionate volunteer at the shelter, helping to make the world a safer place.
Ann was a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church and delighted in being a member of the “Nomads” Sunday School class until health concerns kept her at home. Lately, as Covid concerns lessened, Ann had been accompanying her daughter to worship at Mt. Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph, Tennessee.
Ann had a green thumb and spent many happy hours tending her flowers and plants. She also took great pleasure in watching birds frequent the feeders outside her window. Ann loved to go fishing--which is one reason she loved living in Rogersville--however, if she caught anything other than a catfish, she was sorely disappointed.
Ann was preceded in death by parents, Odus and Flora; sisters, Shirley, Sherian, and Linda; and brothers James and Ernest. Ann is survived by daughters Melissa and Elizabeth (Susan); granddaughter Olivia; sister Jane; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held June 17, 2023 at the Rogersville United Methodist Church. Visitation is 10-11am with funeral to follow immediately. More information is available at rogersvillefh.com
