Iuka will be busier than ever as we "Bring Everyone Together" for this Heritage Day Festival.
Saturday is the day for fun in and around downtown Iuka! From Mineral Springs Park and Jaybird Park, everyone will be celebrating Iuka’s 35th annual Heritage Day festival with events, fun activities, entertainment, sales, and more!
The vision of the Heritage Day Committee is to bring everyone together this year. The Committee has realized that this event is bigger than just Iuka; Tishomingo County as a whole participates in this event. We are happy to bring back the Eastern Band of Cherokee Nation’s Deer Clan Productions for three shows this year and the Shriners Train in Mineral Springs Park. The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. and there will be plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
Once again, the kids will be thrilled with a petting zoo, a kiddie train, breakfast and pics with Princesses, bungee rides, toy vendors, inflatables, and more! We will also have an amazing puppet and magic show by Jack Jones at 1:15 p.m. Of course, tons of craft vendors will be on site, and you won’t want to miss the food vendors, the largest selections in years. Over the years, we have noticed long lines with our food vendors. This year, we had added several more options added to food row. We can purchase anything from pulled pork, ribeye sandwiches, smash burgers, hot dogs, lemonade, funnel cakes, and much more! If you can only come out for one thing, let that be the food. So far, it looks like the forecast is cooperating, with highs in the mid 80s predicted.
Car show in Jaybird Park: In Jaybird Park and throughout downtown Iuka, the Wheels of Northeast Mississippi Car Club will have their annual car show, with hundreds of classic cars and trucks on display, competing for thousands of dollars in prizes. There will be shuttles between the parks all day, and of course, all the downtown businesses will welcome visitors, too.
Come see the Old Courthouse Museum! The Old Courthouse Museum in Iuka is set to join in the celebration of Heritage Day by presenting a unique event called “Living History.” This event aims to provide visitors with an immersive experience of the past by showcasing historical artifacts, offering guided tours, and hosting various interactive activities. The museum will charge a donation fee of $5 for entry, which will contribute to the preservation and maintenance of the museum’s collections. One of the highlights of the event is the historical tour of museum artifacts. This tour will allow visitors to learn about the history and significance of the pieces on display. Another aspect of the event is the display of many handmade quilts and textiles which have been collected from across the region and aprons from our local Apron Museum. In addition, Jack Martin from Hockaday Handmade Brooms and Glen Rikkard will be on-hand demonstrating broom making, basket weaving, and chair caning. In addition to the activities listed above, the Old Courthouse will be offering Mock Weddings and Photo Prompts for $5 each.
TCHS Bravettes host their 2nd Annual Princess Breakfast: At the Youth Center in Mineral Springs Park on Heritage Day, the Tishomingo County Dance Team will host their Princess Pancake Breakfast. Starting at 9 a.m. and running until 11 a.m., come enjoy pancakes, primping with the princesses, complimentary tiaras, dancing, and much more! The price is $30 at the door or prepay at $25.
