Renovation Begins on County Courthouse Roof

In a significant milestone for Tishomingo County, the largest renovation project since its original construction in 1971 has officially commenced at the Tishomingo County Courthouse. The initiation of this project, approved during December 2022's first Monday meeting by the Board of Supervisors, focuses on the installation of a cutting-edge standing-seam metal roof.

Additionally, it was estimated that the cost of the new roof would range between $620,000 to $700,000. Peyton Cummings, Chancery Court Clerk, noted that the county will cover $400,000 of the expenses using funds received from the state of Mississippi for housing inmates from neighboring counties.

The general contracting firm, Worsham Brothers, based in Corinth, Mississippi, successfully secured the bid for the construction of the new roof. The plan they will be constructing the new roof off of includes several innovative features, such as louver vents, a distinctive gable on the front side of the courthouse, and a modern rain-handling system that replaces traditional gutters.

The standing-seam metal roof, known for its robustness and long-lasting qualities, is poised to enhance the courthouse's structural integrity while providing a new and modern look to the structure. Furthermore, the new roof is expected to resolve an ongoing issue with leaks in the current flat-top roof. This constitutes a noteworthy improvement for the iconic building, serving as a symbol of local history and governance for over five decades.

To ensure the smooth progress of construction, the north side parking lot will be temporarily barricaded throughout the project's duration. This measure has been implemented to guarantee the safety of visitors and workers alike, as the Worsham Brothers team works to bring the courthouse into a new era of functionality and visual appeal.

The Tishomingo County Courthouse is expected to emerge from this renovation with a revitalized exterior, ready to serve the county for decades to come.
