Approximately 25 people were on hand, not including city employees and election officials, Tuesday evening at Iuka City Hall as the votes for the mayoral race were counted. Two candidates qualified for the position vacated by Joel Robertson in late March. A special election was set for Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Kenny Carson and Benny Gray met the qualifications to run for the open position. The election was held at City Hall. Once the polls closed, the ballots were tallied by personnel through the Tishomingo County Circuit Clerk's office. Circuit Clerk Rebecca Oaks was on hand to oversee the results. It was a low turnout of only 291 voters and two affidavit ballots. The ballots were hand counted, with Kenny Carson receiving a total of 81% of the votes to Benny Gray's 19% of the votes. Kenny Carson was declared the winner. Next, another special election will be set to fill the Alderman position vacated by Kenny Carson elected Mayor. These details will be available once the dates are set according to state law.
