TISHOMINGO, Miss -- Members of Friends of the Park and park management gathered to celebrate Mississippi Magazine’s Best of Mississippi award in the “Outdoor Adventure” category for Tishomingo State Park.
Each year, Mississippi Magazine polls readers on their favorite places and events in 35 categories. Tishomingo State Park consistently wins each year in the “Outdoor Adventure” category.
Toney Mobley with Friends of the Park reported that “Tishomingo State Park is a special place with historic, cultural, biological, and geological significance to the State of Mississippi. The park is among the top five most visited state parks in the state and is popular with both young and young at heart. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of Park Manager Phil Seymour and his team and we thank the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks for their investment in improving Tishomingo State Park.”
Friends of the Park welcomed Assistant Park Manager Jared McQueen. Three other team members are also new to the park. Several other positions for office and maintenance are open. Call 662-438-6914 for more information on these positions.
Park Manager Phil Seymour reported that he has received a $20,000 grant from Stihl to purchase maintenance equipment. Friends of the Park volunteered to help with several maintenance and improvement projects such as renovation of the Chickasaw disc golf course, installation of ceiling fans and lighting fixtures in the cabins, clean up and repair of the grounds around the lodge, and other work. The lodge is being repaired and the park will hold a reopening event later this year.
Several special events are planned for the coming months at Tishomingo State Park.
