Tishomingo Co. athletes recognized at Northeast

Northeast Mississippi Community College celebrated the accomplishments and achievements of its employees and students during the college’s annual Honors Day ceremony on Monday, April 17 in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
During the 2023 Honors Day ceremony Northeast recognized nine student-athletes as Tiger Award recipients for their dedication to their respective sports on and off the field of competition.
Northeast’s Tiger Award is given each year to the student-athlete in each varsity sport that displays character, sportsmanship, leadership, dedication, and sacrifice, and conducts his or herself in a manner that represents the college in the most positive manner before, during, and after games, in the classroom and as a member of the Northeast community.
Northeast Director of Athletics Kent Farris honored Grayson Stone of Tishomingo (baseball), Megan Cornelison of Iuka (cheerleading), Triston Newson of Coldwater (football), John Daniel Deaton of Booneville (men’s golf), Jalin Rice of Flora (men’s basketball), Tristan Webber of Jacksonville, Ark., (men’s tennis), Alexie Griffin of Atoka, Tenn. (women’s softball), Ella Mask of Corinth (women’s basketball) and Allyson Chapin of New Albany (women’s tennis) as the 2023 Tiger Award winners at Northeast.
Northeast’s Honor’s Day serves as a ceremony to recognize the school’s top students in each division - business and engineering technology, fine arts, health sciences, humanities and languages, social, behavioral and applied sciences, and mathematics and sciences -- Scholar’s Bowl team members, Honors Institute graduates, the Honors Teacher of the Year, Collegiate DECA state and international winners, Phi Beta Lambda state and international winners, student winners of the college’s annual art competition, the Tiger Award presentation for those who excel in sports, the annual Tyger Symmetry Creative Writing Contest winners, the 2023 Northeast Hall of Fame inductees and acknowledgment of the Tremendous Individual Performance (TIP) and Teaching Outstanding Performance (TOP) award winners.
Approximately 325 members of the Northeast student body were recognized for their academic achievement and/or inducted into the national honor society.
