Lady Braves and Lady Cards seasons end in playoff losses

Both the county’s outstanding girls’ basketball teams lost this week to familiar and formidable foes; TC was beat by Pontotoc in the quarterfinals at Itta Bena, whom they beat to advance to the state finals last year, and Belmont fell for the second year to the team from Lake in semifinals action Tuesday morning in Jackson.
TC 44, Pontotoc 56
TC was perfect at home this year, and ended up with only three losses, but Pontotoc fought hard in last Thursday’s game, and TC failed to capitalize on any weak moments Pontotoc had (see complete story inside).
Belmont 48, Lake 60
In semifinals action on Tuesday, Belmont fell to Lake 60-48, failing to keep as much as an 11 point lead they had early in the game. Lake beat Belmont for the state championship last year.
Multiple Belmont players fouled out, failed to make layups and free throws, and more. Haley Bledsoe was injured late in the game so badly they had to carry her out. Wednesday morning, it was reported she was still in the hospital in Jackson, possibly with a hip injury.
County support for these teams couldn’t have been better throughout the whole season, and everyone looks forward to good strong teams next season. See photos inside and online at tishco.news.
