Local businessman L.O. Bishop was inducted into the Alabama Lions Hall of Fame on April 29th, at the Lions of Alabama Annual Convention held in Prattville.
Last year was the first year and we had 5 recipients. This year there were 7 so he is one of 12 to have received the award.
Following is the letter describing his qualifications during his nomination:
The Cherokee Lions Club is honored to nominate Lion L.O. Bishop for consideration to the Alabama Lions Hall of Fame.
L.O. Bishop has been a Lion since October 1980. He just received his 40-year Monarch Chevron and he is also a Gold Centennial Lion. Lion Bishop has been an active and supportive Lion over the years. He donated his time and his money to many of our service projects. Lion Bishop has been a huge help to our club by providing his world famous L.O. Bishop’s Barbecue at our club meetings twice a month for years.
L.O. Bishop is not only known for his barbecue, but also for his love and dedication to his family, and his many years of public and community service. Aside from the aforementioned service with the Lions, the following is a list of just some of Bishop’s accomplishments:
Alabama Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farm Family, 1967
Colbert County Alabama Farm Federation President, 48 years
Alfa Board of Directors, 14 years
Alfa First Vice President, 14 years
Compass Bank Board of Directors, 40 years
Northwest Shoals Community College Foundation Board, 40 years
Alabama Agriculture Wall of Honor, 2017
Shoals Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, 1989
University of North Alabama Business Council
Lion L.O. Bishop has been a valuable asset to the Cherokee Lions Club, to our community and to Northwest Alabama. He definitely represents the Lions Club motto, “We Serve.” Cherokee Lions are honored to nominate Lion L.O. Bishop for the Alabama Lions Hall of Fame.
