Basketball sisters leaving their mark on Tishomingo County

Two sisters had incredible seasons in 2022-23, and they are attracting a lot of attention as their achievements contribute to the sea change of women’s basketball culture in Iuka.
TCHS junior Reese Moore and IMS 7th grader Meg Moore, are the oldest daughters of Brian and Amy Moore of Iuka, and they are a lot alike in their style of play; they both have their strengths and weaknesses, which helps them to benefit each other.
And as anyone who has seen them play can tell you, they are FUN to watch!
Reese didn’t start playing basketball until her 6th grade year, and in her junior year with the Lady Braves, Reese reached the 1000th point milestone.
Reese averaged 20 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 76 percent from the free-throw line. Reese also shot 48 percent from the 2-point area while averaging 4 assists and 3 steals per game.
Just named Division 1-4A Player of the Year, Reese has received offers from Blue Mountain, ICC and Northeast Community College, and she was also chosen to play in the 2023 Mississippi Sports Medicine North/South All-Star game on March 18th in Clinton, Mississippi.
Both Reese and Meg have been an instrumental part of their respective teams, be it leading the team in scoring or being double and triple teamed, allowing their teammates to get open.
Meg started playing in the first grade. Now a 7th grader, playing on the 8th grade team, has shown she is ready to fill her sister’s shoes. Meg averaged 24 points and 6 rebounds per game while shooting 86 percent from the free-throw line in the 2022-23 season.
Expect big things from these girls and their teams in the 2023-24 season.
