Basketball quarterfinals this week for Lady Braves

A very exciting win for the Lady Braves earned them a trip to the quarterfinals of the MHSAA 4A playoffs.
Last Friday they hosted Choctaw Central for the rematch of last year’s state championship game. Choctaw Central lead at halftime, and their full-court press defense was getting to TC early. They had an 8-0 scoring run near the end of the second quarter that put them up on the scoreboard.
However, the Lady Braves were determined to not let history repeat itself, and they successfully put the Warriors behind them, winning a 55-53 thrilling contest that came down to the very last shot. The near-capacity crowd arrived early making their presence known, and when TC got the win, the crowd broke out into absolute pandemonium.
TC travels to Itta Bena for another rematch against a familiar opponent, the Pontotoc Lady Warriors. The game will be held at Mississippi Valley State at 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 24th.
Baseball
The baseball Braves hit some struggles this week, but finally got a win against Booneville Tuesday night, 12-5!
Sophomore Jackson Moore pitched, only giving up one unearned run. Senior Chandler Williams hit 2 home runs. There were 11 hits and 4 errors.
On opening day against Ripley, a couple of costly errors and a great pitching performance from the Tigers saw the Braves drop the game 3-1.
On Friday, they once again couldn’t get the bats rolling, losing 7-2 against the Kossuth Aggies. On Saturday at Nettleton, the Tigers got out to a six-run first inning, and the Braves couldn’t catch up. The final score was 11-9.  The Braves have been steadily improving game by game, and this week’s slate of games promises more opportunities to get better. They play Booneville on Tuesday at home, then TCPS at home on Thursday, then a couple of games against Alcorn Central and Southaven on Friday.
Softball
Softball officially started their season with a 3-0 start. They took part in the Belmont classic, and their first contest was against New Site. They won the game 14-0. Then a game against New Hope ended with a 6-1 win. They sit at 4-0 after their 12-2 home opener against Alcorn Central on Monday and a win against Walnut on Tuesday. They return to Alcorn Central on Thursday.
More!
E-sports started out their season 3-1 with the lone loss coming to Gentry, but they gained wins over Oxford, New Albany, and Ross Fort.
Also, TC had some representatives in Oxford in the Mid-South Honor Band. Congratulations to Eli Emerson, Brianna Tensley, Ava Henry, and David Tapp.
