This award highlights an artist, teaching artist, educator, school, or program that has demonstrated a commitment to arts education and has positively influenced the lives of students through creative expression.
Elizabeth Thomas’s story is one of resilience, passion, and unwavering dedication. Faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles this year that were completely beyond her control, Elizabeth refused to back down. Instead, she channeled her energy and passion into what matters most: her students.
She produced two incredible shows, which not only captivated audiences but also earned numerous awards at the Mississippi Theatre Associations individual competitions.
Teaching art alongside drama also shows her versatility and ability to inspire students in multiple creative fields. Sterling Durham’s recognition as a top designer in the state adds another layer of achievement to her teaching career.
And of course, Elizabeth’s collaboration with Thomas Rakestraw in winning 2nd place for Musical Duet is a testament to her dedication to the arts at TCHS. It seems like Elizabeth’s work is making a significant impact on her students but on the broader community too.
